Friday Fictioneers- Her Collection

100 Words

Sasha fingered through her collection of driftwood, shells and carbonate rocks. With sudden anger, she swept the treasures off the table with a swift arm. They cracked and shattered on the floor.

I watched from the open doorway as she collapsed onto her knees and wept.

Since she was a girl, she saw magic in the world. It was hiding on the cusp of the Pacific.

Last night she had gone out to watch turtles hatch on the beach.

Last night she was pulled off the sand and into a stranger’s truck.

I could tell that the magic was gone.

    1. Thanks Rochelle,

I was actually heavily inspired by your story- The feeling that something was there but is not anymore. It was interesting territory and I wanted to explore it with my own spin. I like how it turned out 🙂

      Thanks for the compliments!

  1. Sad, so very sad.. to see innocence destroyed in such a manner. So terrible, made even more so by the sheer reality of it for far too many young women. I think of the young girls from Indiana who were abducted and murdered while hiking a while back. So tragic! Great writing for it this week! 🙂 ❤

    1. I appreciate you sharing your thoughts Jelli 🙂 & yes, it is very sad. I really wish it was not as big a problem as it is in the world.

I think the worst part about rape, abduction, trafficking, etc. is that the victims don’t do anything wrong. They are just living their lives normally until they are targeted randomly and viciously.

      Thanks again for reading!

    1. Thanks for reading 🙂 Yeah it really is a shame. When I first started dating my girlfriend, I was honestly shocked by how much she thought about rape- As a man, I have no problem walking around a city at night. It really is a shame that it is such a problem in society.

Thanks again for reading and for your thoughts!

    1. That’s exactly what I was going for! Some people who hurt inside don’t make sense, but the more you learn of the situation the more logical it becomes. Thank you for your comments! I’m glad you liked it!

      1. Thank you for reading! I appreciate your comments! & yeah I know what you mean, it can be kind of hard to describe.

The best I can do is an example: “The Jerk” and “Schindler’s List” are both pretty great movies, but for entirely different reasons. If I was to put them on an out of 5 scale then the reasons for doing so are lost. Just like with the like button. You can only really tell the difference when it comes to the written reviews by the audience.

Which is why I treasure comments like yours and everyone else’s. It lets me know how my work is being received and perceived. I’m so thankful you stopped by 🙂
